Hydrotherapy (or “water cure”) refers to the therapeutic use of water to stimulate the body’s healing force, and alter the very constitution of the cell. Over 100 years of historical naturopathic use has demonstrated hydrotherapy to be safe, effective and useful for both acute and chronic health problems. It helps to detoxify heavy metals, pesticide/herbicides, and the daily toxic buildup of improper diet and lifestyle. As toxins are eliminated, healthy function can once again exist through normal physiologic function. Constitutional hydrotherapy gently stimulates the digestive tract, including the stomach, liver and bowels, immune system, spinal column and associated nerves, kidneys and the respiratory system. This improves the digestion and breakdown of food and enhances the mobilization and elimination of toxins.
Remarkably, an increase in white blood cell count by 10,000 more cells on average in circulation is seen within 2 to 8 hours after only 1 hydrotherapy. This is a rapid way to boost your immune function and fight any infection.
Because of its ability to improve overall nutrition of the individual and boost immunity, constitutional hydrotherapy may be useful in almost any condition. However it may be particularly useful in the following:
- digestive tract problems (dyspepsia, Crohn’s disease, intestinal permeability (leaky gut), irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis)
- respiratory problems (chronic asthma, bronchitis, pleurisy)
- infectious disease (colds, flu, autoimmune disease)
- female reproductive problems (PMS, dysmenorrhea, infertility, healthy pregnancy)
- environmental hypersensitivity
- circulatory problems
This is a simplistic therapy utilizing alternating hot and cold towel application to the chest and to the back. In a clinical setting, a mild electrical stimulation is applied to the organs of detoxification to further enhance the healing process. A treatment protocol generally consists of a series of individual treatments, specifically designed for that individual, that are adjusted as necessary, as their healing progresses.
