To start the day, I encourage my patients to eat within 1 hour of rising; this efficiently starts the day properly balancing metabolism, blood sugar, cortisol, energy, and the immune system. This is also the start of the First Line Therapy weight loss program. My favourite breakfasts are:

1. Protein Shake – made from rice/pea protein. I like to include ground flax, berries, baby spinach, sliver of avocado, tbsp of organic soy yogurt/fat free plain yogurt, sunflower seeds, and water. If you enjoy a whole grain cereal, you can use the shake as a base, and add 1/2 cup of cereal.

2. Omelette – I enjoy the yolk along with the egg whites, as they are beneficial to those who do not consume a diet high in saturated fat. They are a good source of Lecithin, which protects many organs, including the brain. I love putting a side of kale salad along with my omellete, with tomatoes, in a light extra virgin olive oil and lemon/balsamic vinegar dressing.

3. Oatmeal – the 10 minute gruel, not the instant! I add berries while its cooking, 1 tbsp of cinnamon, sunflower seeds/pumpkin seeds, and sometimes, I will add 1 scoop of my favourite rice based protein powder after it’s cooked for added sustenance. I have a big appetite!
