In keeping with eating with the season and eating cooked foods over raw to help your digestive processes, here is a recipe for a warm fruit, protein, and fiber-filled snack. It is like a gluten-free “oatmeal”


  • chopped apple (1/2 per serving)
  • 1 date sliced
  • 2 tbsp of hemp harts
  • 1 tbsp of chia seeds
  • about 1/4 cup water
  • almond/rice/soy milk
  • cinnamon
  • ground flax

boil the apples in the water over medium heat. Add date, and cinnamon. When apples become soft, remove from heat. Let cool, and add hemp harts, chia seeds, and sprinkle ground flax over top. Add almond/rice/soy milk to make a creamier consistency. You can add a little honey and/or berries too. This makes a great snack, dessert, or part of a breakfast too. It has a nice balance of protein, fiber, and good fat.
